The Colorado design community lost a great leader last week. I learned a lot from him in a very little time. We're going to miss you, Bob.
AIGA Colorado honored him nicely on their blog:
AIGA Colorado Remembers and Honors Robert Taylor (1938-2010)
AIGA Colorado is saddened by the loss of an inspirational and respected member of the design community. Mr. Robert W. Taylor passed away on July 19, 2010 at the age of 71.
Robert graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art in 1962 with a degree in Advertising Art and Design. He then moved to California to pursue his career in graphic design. In California, he worked for At Art Associates, and then under legendary designer Saul Bass for over three years.
Robert returned to Colorado in 1969 and started his own firm, Robert W Taylor Design, Inc. in 1975, where he produced inspired works in corporate identity and brand design, print media, package design and advertising. Robert’s firm moved with technology and entered into information graphics, multimedia and website design.
Robert begin his service on the Art Directors Club of Denver’s Board of Directors in 1979, serving as Acting Historian until 2005 and as Vice-President from 1980–1982. In 2003, he was the first recipient of the ADCD Legacy Award. In 1989, along with twenty-two other designers, Robert helped found AIGA Colorado — the 29th local chapter of the professional association for design. Robert was the first to be honored as AIGA Colorado Fellow in 2004 for his dedication and contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within the design community, and AIGA Colorado.
AIGA Colorado is saddened to have lost such an inspirational and respected member of the design community. Robert’s legacy will always remain part of AIGA Colorado’s history and practice.
The Board of Directors of AIGA Colorado is pleased to announce that the AIGA Colorado Scholarship has adopted a new name in his honor, The Robert Taylor AIGA Colorado Scholarship.
